Lamia Aziz
Lamia holds a Master of Art & Design (first class), a Diploma in teaching, and a Bachelor in Art & Design (Honours), first class from AUT, Auckland. She lives in Auckland with her husband Samer Hatam. Besides her work in illustration, she is a secondary art teacher.
Lamia has illustrated more than 200 books internationally and in New Zealand (she is also the author of two books). Lamia has exhibited her works internationally and in 2002 her work was selected for exhibition at the Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy.
Her master's thesis was retelling and illustrating the famous ancient Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh. The illustrated book "Gilgamesh, the Hero of Mesopotamia", consists of thirty-six drawings that explore cyclic composition as a form of narrative discourse.
