Biography

Kathleen Richens is a New Zealand illustrator living in rural Canterbury with her husband and five children. Growing up she spent most of her free time drawing and painting, continuing to study art throughout high school. Also, with strong interests in natural landscapes and the environment, she graduated from the University of Canterbury with a BSc in Geography in 2008.

Inspired by beautiful picture books she reads to her children, she is now focused on creating her own illustrations for picture books. She has also recently been drawing and painting illustrations of pets and wedding couples.

Kathleen uses watercolour, pen and pencil to create whimsical, fun, detailed illustrations that appeal to both children and adults.

Although happy with any subject matter she especially enjoys illustrating animals, children and families.
