Biography

Mark has been illustrating professionally for 30 years in Australia and the United Kingdom.

His academic training started with a Diploma in Graphic Design and Film and Television at Swinburne College of Art, in Victoria, Australia. His career path from that point moved forward into various exploratory paths. Working with studios as an Art Director in Australia left Mark dissatisfied until he was given the opportunity to work for a major British Children's television series, 'Jigsaw' for the B.B.C. London.

From this point the children's publishing and television market in the U.K. and Australia opened up. In tandem with this he established himself as a professional cartoonist working for magazines, television, publishing and advertising based in London and Bristol England.

With many years in the UK behind him he returned to Australia working freelance for various  well known publishers of children's books, including Macmillan and Penguin Australia. Mark has illustrated for the 'Winners' series of the Australian Children's Television Foundation, and has been awarded for his work in the creation of television animations for The International Year of Peace.

Before returning again to work in the U.K. as a cartoonist and children's illustrator Mark's passion for environmental and wildlife care led him to write and illustrate the riotous 'Bill Bottlebrush and The Squatters' which went into hard cover and paper back through Macmillan Publishing. Resuming his career overseas, he found himself placed in the exotic world of romantic Budapest creating for German television a series of  cartoon animations one of which received a prize at Cannes Film festival.

Mark is now based once more in Australia, resuming his love for children's illustration and cartooning. Throughout the last twenty five years he has also explored other areas of the visual Art world being represented in Australia, Santa Fe New Mexico U.S.A. and the U.K.

Mark loves all aspects of illustration especially the humorous end or the picture and story book market.

Mark is represented by The Sandra Morris Illustration Agency in New Zealand and by an illustration agency in London England.
