News Update September 2023

Alba G Celdran has been awarded winner of the Hachette Margaret Mahy Illustration Award 2023.

The judging panel said Celdran's illustrations of Margaret Mahy's children’s book Seventeen Kings and Forty-Two Elephants were mesmerising, and full of humour.

They also said the winner’s illustrations had a fantastic sense of movement. "Her clever use of the kings and the animals led us on a very exciting, very humorous and very vibrant adventure."

Congratulations to Alba. We look forward to seeing her work in the final publication of this book.


News Update June 2023

Sandra Morris was recently awarded ONZM (Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit) for her outstanding contributions to book illustration and education. The announcement was made during the recent King's Birthday and Coronation Honours list for 2023. Her ongoing commitment to continue inspiring future generations of artists and illustrators is reflected throughout this site and we congratulate Sandra on such well-deserved recognition.


News Update August 2022

Sandra Morris Illustration Agency is delighted that Stephanie Thatcher's book He Wheke Wai Mamangu Au, translated into te reo Maori by Pania Papa, (published by Scholastic NZ) was shortlisted this year in the NZ Book Awards for Children & Young Adults-( category-Wright Family Foundation Te Kura Pounamu Award for Te Reo Maori.).

We are also delighted to announce that Sarah Trolle was awarded runner-up for her entry into the Hachette Margaret Mahy Illustration Award 2022.

Sandra Morris Illustration Agency is proud to announce that two of its illustrators are shortlisted for the New Zealand Children and Young Adult's Book Awards 2021:

Russell Clark Award for Illustration - Malene Laugesen for her illustrations for Sun & Moon by Melinda Szymanik (Upstart Press)

Elsie Locke Award for Non-FictionSandra Morris for her book North & South (Walker Books Australia)

The winners for these awards will be announced Wednesday 11 August 2021.
