Biography Rebecca Gibbs, originally from Gisborne with links to Rongowhaakata, is a Christchurch based author and illustrator. Having trained and practiced as a primary school teacher both here and overseas for 12 years she has a strong working knowledge of children’s books and illustration. Rebecca gained a Bachelor of Design (VisCom) in 2015 and has worked in illustration and publishing since 2016. Rebecca wrote and illustrated the well received ‘Six Foot Rats’ for charity in 2016. She was highly commended in the Storyline’s Gavin Bishop Award (2017), and her illustrated resources for teachers are staples in many classrooms across the country. Rebecca has a passion for diverse representation in her work, as well as te ao Māori, and is known for her charming animal and fantasy characters along with a strong visual representation of Māori motifs. Rebecca works in both traditional and digital media. She has produced work for clients including Porsche, Safe NZ, Christchurch Clinical Studies Trust, Dairy NZ as well as a range of educational, early learner and Te Reo Māori resource providers.
